Confidentiality

A note on Confidentiality, Simulation and Assessment

As the work of an advocate is with very vulnerable people Voice is committed to protecting the rights and confidentiality of the children and young people that advocates work with.  The issue if young people will agree to be observed working with their advocate is a very sensitive one.  Whilst the accreditation guidelines are clear that it may not be achieved only through simulation and role play an advocate will not be forced to ask a young person to co-operate with observation if they are uncomfortable doing so.  Observations may therefore be conducted in other areas of the advocates work or in more communal meetings.

If the young person does agree to observation it is essential that they sign an agreement form, which you will be given by your personal tutor. If the candidate intends to submit photos, video or audio evidence of their work with young people they should ask young person to sign an agreement form.

Confidential case material including case studies should be edited to preserve anonymity. All work in portfolio will be stored on Learning Voices which has a high level of security protection and will only be viewed by authorised assessment staff.

Voice is committed to empowering children and young people in public care and supporting those who work with them to achieve excellence.
