Who the course is for

Anyone working with children and young people in secure settings who wants to promote children’s rights. This course is considered an intermediate level course and is recommended following our 3 day comprehensive ‘Being a Voice’ advocacy training.

Learning outcomes

  • Describe the experience of being locked up from a young person’s perspective
  • Explain some of the key structures & processes within the secure estate
  • List the legal status that young people may have in various institutions
  • Identify what makes an effective complaint in secure settings
  • Evaluate the rights & entitlements of young people in secure settings
  • Demonstrate effective advocacy within a secure setting
